Artist Statement
Up to this point in time the work I have created has been about prosthetic identities, each acts to replace an authentic identity with an artificial one. Through a guise of wigs, facial attachments, costumes, and hand made objects I reconstruct images of women. My own memories, media and socially acceptable ideals have mediated the output of this image. In this obsessive hunt I have romanticize these images by designing hyper real landscapes in which to act as them. These landscapes are suggestive of the continual tension present within the dramaturgical idea of front stage/backstage, in which people act differently when presented with an audience than not. My work, sometimes cynical, attempts to take an earnest look back at itself by finding ways to pin the insincerity of the image against the earnestness of making.
