Artist Statement:
The landscape of a day, sunrise to sunset, much resembles the landscape of a life. We relish in the rise - treasuring the memories of first feedings and first steps. Eventually though the set will take us, and the last feeding, the last step will be the memories we fight to bury along with the body.
Tender is a word the can signify either aching pain or gentle care. It is the ability of one situation, over time, to produce of these two responses- pain and care- that the majority of my work focuses on. Like first and last steps, I explore acts that change throughout life, ones once sweet and gentle, then turning bitter and aching with the passing of daybreaks.
